Does your dog have an excellent temperament? Does s/he seem to just gravitate toward people who love dogs or who need a pick-me-up? The saying is that "therapy dogs are born, not made." The successful therapy dog often breezes through the Canine Good Citizen test items and shows a remarkable ability to heal people by their presence.
If you look at our GCOC Honor Roll, you will see that several of our dogs do therapy work.
In recognition of the good work these dog-and-handler teams are doing, the AKC has recently added the Therapy Dog title to reward those who volunteer their time with a variety of therapy dog organizations. For more information on the many therapy dog organizations you might choose to be a part of and how to go about starting this very rewarding work, see the AKC's Therapy Dog pages.
