Rear-End Awareness and Positioning for Competition
Have you wondered how to get snappy left turns and straight sits and downs? Pivots and Platforms are a great answer.
Join us for a 4 week-deep dive into the essential fundamentals of finding heel position and independent movement of the rear legs.
Heel is a position defined by the dog’s right shoulder in line with the handler’s left thigh whether sitting, lying, standing, or moving. Finding heel position is the first step in building precision for obedience, rally, freestyle, and many other dog sports. Front positioning will be explored as well.
Discovering the ability to move the rear separately is where all the fun starts. Once realized, your dog can excel in backups, lateral movements, tight turns, and circles. You will get glimpses of the handler and dog, as a team, moving in synch. This synergy is one of the most exciting parts of precision team sports.
The class will use exercises to build better skills through progressive steps that raise criteria based on the individual teams. These games will build confidence and open a wide world of possibilities for your training.
Prerequisite for the class: Successful completion of Intermediate Skills or instructor approval
Materials for class: Pivot and Platforms If you have them, bring them to class. If you don't we will discuss them the first class.
Crates are required for this class.
