C-WAGS, Volunteer Survey,Cookie Cook-Off

Goodness! The summer has gone by slowly!  Yes, I know, that is not the usual sentiment for how a summer passes, but I spent most of mine in a long arm cast because of a broken arm.  Believe me, it passed excruciatingly slowly.  I sincerely hope your summer was more comfortable than mine.

But now, my cast is off and we have a wonderful fall in store for everyone. Our agility trial is coming up at the end of this month, and in October we have another Shadow Dog Sports event. We will be hosting our first ever C-WAGS obedience and rally trial.  If you are unfamiliar, as I was, with C-WAGS, check out the rules here:C-WAGS  We had about 20 people at a workshop this past Sunday to introduce C-WAGS to the club. It looks like it will be both challenging and fun! I am definitely enthused and hopefully, we will have a great first trial. I want to mention, as Nell did on Sunday, that C-WAGS is not intended to take the place of AKC trials. I see it as an interim type of trial that lets you get ready for the more formal AKC method.  I think you will love it! The premium can be found here:Obedience & Rally Trials and Matches

I want to take a moment and thank everyone who volunteers in any capacity for GCOC. Not only does volunteering keep our club running, but it provides opportunities for you to spend time with your fellow club members. Our club has grown so much over the past few years that is hard to keep track of your areas of interest and expertise. Our membership application form asks these types of questions but it really doesn't create a database for us.  After one of our board meetings earlier this summer, Tracy Seiler set up a Google survey that asks everyone to tell us your areas of interest. It will be a better way for us to keep track of our potential volunteers.   Please click on the link and take a few moments to fill out our member volunteer survey. GCOC Member Volunteer Survey

As a quick side note, we are in particular need of folks to help set up the equipment for the agility trial the morning of September 29.   Send Peggy an e-mail  if you can assist with the trial set-up.  Please consider volunteering for ring crew positions, as well.  You can do that on the Member Volunteer survey or send me an e-mail and I will forward it to the trial committee.

And perhaps you missed it but our October club meeting is a repeat of the GCOC Great Cookie Cook - Off. Send me your recipes!  Contest rules are on our home page.  GCOC Home Page

One last thing that I want to address briefly in this blog is that I am currently seeking names of folks who would be willing to serve on our nominating committee. I would like there to be a diverse group on the nominating committee. We want new members, long-term members, agility participants, and obedience participants. If you have an interest in serving on the nominating committee please send Peggy an e-mail

That's it for now.  See y'all soon!
