Rally
GCOC Rally is taught in a sequence of 6 classes:
Class 1: Rally Skills
Class 2: Rally Novice
Class 3: Rally Novice Ring Ready
Class 4: Intermediate Skills
Class 5: Advanced/Excellent
Class 6: Advanced/Excellent Ring Ready
GCOC will attempt to start two sequences each year; one in the Spring and a second in the Fall. Additional special Rally classes and workshops will be added as needed. Contact rallyclasses@gcoc.net with questions.
Class 1: Rally Skills
Class Description:This class is designed for dogs coming out of a basic obedience class. It uses some of the basic Rally signs to further teach heeling, straight sits, stays, turns (270s and 360s), stands, fast downs and fast sits and both finishes. This class prepares students for the Rally Novice class.
Cost: $75 non-members/$52.50 GCOC members

Class 2: Rally Novice
Class Description:This class is an introduction to the Rally novice signs, rules and regulations. Teams learn the correct performance of each of the AKC Rally Novice signs and practice running short sequences of signs. Upon completion of this class, teams may be ready to compete in Rally Novice (dependent on skill levels of dogs and handlers). Knowledge of both finishes is helpful but not required. This class is not designed to teach the skills needed to compete in Rally Novice; it is expected that participants are already proficient in loose leash heeling, short stays and other basic obedience skills.

Class 3: Rally Novice Ring-Ready
Class Description: This class is designed to provide experience in running AKC Novice level courses and to ensure that handlers are familiar with AKC Rally Novice rules and regulations. Dogs should be fairly proficient in heeling and short stays. Class participants will receive practice in running courses and will review rules and regulations including scoring requirement.
Cost: $75 non-members/$52.50 GCOC members
Prerequesites:Either completion of the Rally Novice class, or prior knowledge/experience in Rally Novice

Class 4: Rally Intermediate Skills
Class Description: This class introduces teams to the skills that are needed to compete in Rally Advanced and Excellent. Teams will practice the following skills: stands, "leave its", off-lead heeling, moving down, moving stand, heeling backwards, and pivots. Rally Advanced and Excellent signs will be introduced.
Cost: $75 non-members/$52.50 GCOC members
Prerequesites: Either experience in competing in Rally Novice or completion of Rally Novice or Rally Novice Ring Ready class.

Class 5: Rally Advanced/Excellent
Class Description:Teams learn the correct performance of Rally Advanced and Excellent signs. Class participants will also practice short sign sequences. The rules and regulations for Rally Advanced and Excellent are reviewed. This class is designed for students who are preparing to compete, or are already competing, in Rally Advanced or Excellent. This class assumes that students are able to perform (to some degree) the skills listed in the Rally Intermediate class, although the instructor will assist students who have difficulty with any of the skills. To successfully participate in this class, students should have some experience in the following skills: pivots, heeling backwards, moving stands, moving downs, "leave its" and stands. If not, students should consider enrolling in a Rally Intermediate class first.

Prerequesites: Either experience in competing in Rally Advanced/Excellent or completion of Rally Intermediate Class

Class 6: Rally Advanced/Excellent Ring-Ready
Class Description:This class is designed to provide experience in running AKC Advanced and Excellent level courses and to ensure that handlers are familiar with AKC Rally Advanced/Excellent rules and regulations. Dogs should be fairly proficient in performing all signs and skills required at every level of Rally. Class participants will receive practice in running courses.
